Dove Emblem

DL Carstens, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 24, 2015.

He was born on January 5, 1939 in Oaktown, IN to Geraldine and Mack Carstens. He married Jane Byers on January 9, 1960. They lived their lives together in Indiana, California and Ohio until settling in the late 1960's in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Lynn graduated from Oaktown High School, Vincennes University and Purdue University. He spent most of his career as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Lake Superior State College in the Soo before retiring in 1994. Lynn loved to travel and spend time with his family. He loved riding his ATV in the Arizona desert, watching NASCAR racing, and listening to classic country. He was an artist – creating beautiful horseshoe sculptures and could fix anything mechanical.

Lynn is survived by his three Children: Kelly Bailo and her husband Steve of South Lyon, MI; Toni Carstens and her husband Gene Matter of Folsom, CA; and Jim Carstens and his wife Holly of Barbeau, MI. He has been blessed with six granddaughters: Mallary Green, LtJG Christina Bailo, Lyndsay Matter, MiKayla Carstens, Leia Matter, and Jamie Carstens; and two great-grandchildren: Andrea and Matthew Green.

According to Lynn's wishes, a service will not be held at this time. A "Celebration of Life" will be held in Michigan later this summer. Contact his daughter, Kelly at kbailo@a-rec.net if you would like to attend or send a tribute. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his or Jane's name.
